Mary-Sues.
Terrible creatures.

When someone calls your Character a Mary-Sue, it generally means your Character is one or more of the following:

  • Too perfect (Flawless, not enough flaws, or is a generally unbelievable Character)
  • Taking the Spotlight (Centering all Roleplay's on one's Character, accidental or not)
  • Unlikely (Example, having Powers in a world where Powers aren't common, or being a race other than Human where it's not common.)
  • God-Modding (Example: If one Character is stuck underneath a rock for a dramatic Roleplay, Mary-Sue comes along and lifts the rock immediately with no problem.)
  • Instantaneously Learning (Example, what might take years for most people to learn, Mary-Sue took a week to master!) (Alternatively, your Character suddenly has skills which weren't listed in the ignitial Profile, and have no signs of being learned in previous Roleplays.)
  • Over Talented (Too many talents, not enough flaws.)

These are generally very annoying Characters.
If your Character has been deemed a Mary-Sue, try this:

1. Round it.
If your Character is too perfect, and has little to no flaws, or has Pros far outnumbering the flaws, try toning the character down a bit. Give them flaws, and an even balance of Pros as well. Don't be afraid to be out there and creative with it, give your Character a few good flaws!
Clumsiness, however, is not a very good flaw. It's overused, so do try to think of something else.

Do try to avoid having your Character 'Queen of the Universe', or 'Daughter of a God/President/Other Idol'. These are annoying, and often hold too much power.

2. Share the Spotlight.
The world doesn't revolve around your Character! Make sure you allow room for other Characters to have some good time in the spotlight. Don't try to attract too much attention to your own, because, after a while, people will just get tired, and leave you alone.

3. Make them believable.
This is a simple Earth/Moon bound Roleplay. There aren't any other Races apart from Human here, and if you want a different race here, douse yourself with cold water and try again.
Powers are also prohibited: we're only human.

Do try not to make them super-intelligent or evolved humans, because this leads to being overpowered, and you'll have to step back to point one.

4. Don't have a quick-fix cure for everything.
If your Character's best friend is drowning, don't immediately produce a boat and go after them. If your Character's acquaintance is in any trouble, don't immediately have a quick fix for it.
Remember, these are humans. These people do still experience human emotion, such as Doubt, Fear, Envy and Greed. All these things could get in the way of immediately rescuing your friend- so don't forget them!

Use these to prevent Quick-Fix cures, because Quick-Fixes are always annoying.
Always.

5. Development.
You hear of this awesome thing your Character should be able to do. And hey, if they learn really fast, it'll make them look even better!
No. It doesn't work like that.

If your Character doesn't start off with a skill, allow them to develop it through several Roleplays over a long amount of time. It sounds more believable, and makes it all the better when they perfect it, because not only will they be able to do it, you'll feel they (and you!) have earned it!
Plus, it's a lot more fun.

Please do try to avoid the classic symptoms of a Mary-Sue. Mary-Sues will not be Accepted into Roleplay, and if your Character grows a little Sue-ish over time, we'll put you back into the Creation Proccess to numb it down.
